We are running our annual club hill climb on the 4th October.  We are having to make some alterations to the usual running of the event to ensure the safety of competitors and the general public in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. We are asking riders to abide by some simple rules to enable us to run the event safely. We feel it is important to note that a “return to new normality” is a key governmental strategy, and by holding events with consideration to COVID-19 demonstrates an agile approach to this strategy whilst keeping people safe.

Pre event rider info:

Riders must use a working rear light during the event.

Please bring your OWN pen to the sign on.

Please wear a face covering at sign on.

There is to be no gathering at the sign on, for your own safety and the safety of others, please sign on and don’t hang around. Please maintain 2m distance when signing on.

Anyone can ride as long as you are over 12 years old.

All competitors at the start will be required to have one foot on the ground as there will be no pusher / starter.

You will get a paper number at sign on. You will not have to return this number. To maintain social distancing, riders need to pin their own numbers on.

There will be no results at the event. Please DO NOT ask the timekeeper for your times. Results will be posted as soon as possible after the event.

Absolutely no spectating or gathering on the course, or near the start or finish line.

A big thanks to all the ELV and Becontree members who have volunteered their time to make this event happen!

  1. How are you going to control social distancing at sign on where are the cyclists going to congregate before and after event. The numbers in Epping Forest are rising so cannot understand why residents should be put at further risk.

    1. Hi Coral, we will have a small number of people marshalling the event to monitor safety and ensure people do not gather at any time. We have extended the sign-on time to facilitate social distancing. Riders will be given a designated start time and asked not to go to the start line before that time and will be asked to disperse if they do so. No spectators are permitted and riders are under strict instructions to leave immediately following the event. We are taking social distancing and infection prevention measures very seriously, in line with guidance provided by the Cycling Time Trials association. We do not anticipate any close contact need occur between riders and people not participating in the event. Thank you for getting in touch.
